Registration, evaluation, authorisation, and retriction of chemicals (REACh) as well as classification, labelling, and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP/GHS).

The European Chemicals Directive (REACh)

For the first time, the EU Directive on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACh) follows a total approach on the production and handling of chemicals in the European Union while integrating existing legislations. Depending on weight band and hazard class there are several registration deadlines. For most companies, REACh will have a large impact on the communication in the sales chain. The responsible office for REACh is the European Chemicals Agency ECHA in Helsinki.

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging of chemicals (GHS/CLP)

In order to adapt the European rules for the handling of chemicals and mixtures to the worldwide Globally Harmonized System (GHS), REACh was amended by another Directive. The CLP Directive addresses the Classification, the Labelling, and the packaging of chemicals. New requirements for the labelling with hazard pictograms as well as the structure and content of safety data sheets apply.
